MacMurray Snags Endicott Assistant

Dec. 8, 2006

BEVERLY, MA - Kyle B. Sweeney, Endicott College's football defensive coordinator, has accepted the head coaching position at MacMurray College (Jacksonville, IL) effective January 2, 2007, this according to MacMurray's Vice President of Academic Affairs David Fitz. Sweeney will also be added to the MacMurray faculty as an instructor of sport management.

A founding father of the Endicott football program, Sweeney was hired by Gulls' Head Coach JB Wells in 2002. Sweeney coached Endicott's first ever team in a junior varsity season in `02 and has since served as the program's defensive coordinator. In 2005, Sweeney coached the Endicott defense to an NCAA statistical best turnover margin in all of division III football. This past year, the Gulls finished the season with a 6-4 record, and a 5-2 mark in the NEFC. Endicott was the top statistical scoring defense in the New England Football Conference this past year.

Sweeney's coaching resume includes a stint as a recruiting assistant at Occidental College (Los Angeles), his alma mater, where he is credited for bringing in a recruiting class that led OC to a 9-2 record including two NCAA playoff wins in 2004. Later at Illinois Wesleyan, Sweeney served two years as the defensive backs coach. During that two year span, IWU won back-to-back conference titles for the first time in almost 35 years. Kyle Sweeney has also served as an assistant coach for the Endicott College baseball team, a program that won the CCC championships in 2004 and 2006.
