Gulls Sweep Nor'easters

Beverly, MA In a double header against the University of New England, the Gulls swept the Nor'easters, winning both games 2-0. With the wins, the Gulls improve their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) record to 12-1, and their overall record to 19-2-1.

In the first game, both teams would tally two hits a piece, but EC would capitalize with their base running. Freshman Paula McGinn began the first inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Sophomore Ashley Labella sacrificed McGinn to third and senior co-captain Elyse Colby hit one down the rightfield line for an RBI single, allowing McGinn to score from third.

EC would score their second and final run of the game in the bottom of the 5th. Katie Doherty started it off with a walk and then Missy Swymer went in to pinch run. Swymer would advance to second on a Nicole Reather sacrifice bunt and swipe third on a passed ball. Laura Schack then flied to first, allowing Swymer to score from third. Robyn Savitske earned her 12th win of the season, allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out ten.

In the second game of the UNE double header, the Gulls scored two runs in the bottom of the first, which proved all they needed to win the game. Paula McGinn earned a walk and advanced to second on an Ashley Labella sacrifice bunt. McGinn advanced to third on an Elyse Colby fielders choice and crossed home plate on a UNE throwing error. Junior Megan Huckins would then single and advance to second on a passed ball. Freshman Rachel Pearson then smacked a double, knocking in the second and final run for the Gulls.

Nicole Reather earned her 5th win of the season, allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out six. Robyn Savitske came into the game in the 7th notching her 3rd save of the season.

The Gulls host Salve Regina University this Saturday in a CCC double header. The first pitch is set for 12:00p.m.
