Gulls Sweep Nor'easters

Beverly, MA In a double header against the University of New England, the Gulls swept the Nor'easters, winning 2-0 in the first game and 2-0 in the second. With the wins, the Gulls improve their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) record to 12-1, and their overall record to 19-2-1.

In the first game, both teams tallied two hits, but EC capitalized on their base runners. Freshman Paula McGinn began the first inning with a single and advanced to single on a passed ball. Sophomore Ashley Labella sacrificed McGinn to third. Senior co-captain Elyse Colby hit one of the two RBI's for the Gulls, allowing McGinn to score the winning run for the Gulls.

EC would score their second and final run of the game in the bottom of the 5th. Laura Schack flied to first, and Missy Swymer who pinch ran for Katie Doherty, tagged from third, scoring the final run of the game.

Robyn Savitske earned her 12th win of the season, allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out ten.

In the second game, the Gulls scored two runs in the bottom of the first, which proved all they needed to win the game. Paula McGinn earned a walk and advanced to second on an Ashley Labella sacrifice. McGinn advanced to third on an Elyse Colby ground out to third. McGinn crossed home plate due to an UNE first baseman error. Junior Megan Huckins singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Freshman Rachel Pearson doubled, batting in the second and final run for the Gulls.

Nicole Reather earned her 5th win of the season, allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out six. Robyn Savitske came in for the save, which is her third of the season.

The Gulls host CCC member, Salve Regina University this Saturday for a double header. The first pitch is set for 12:00p.m.
