Gulls Win Battle of the Birds

Gulls Win Battle of the Birds

Oct. 18, 2004

Endicott College relied on an efficient rushing attack and timely defensive play to defeat Salve Regina University, 23-14, in New England Football Conference (NEFC) action at Toppa Field in Newport, RI. Gerard Festa (Revere, MA) ran wild for the Gulls, rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns (4,14) on 34 carries.

Endicott controlled the first quarter, putting together an eight-minute opening drive that ended in a Jay Munroe (Beverly, Ma) touchdown run. Behind the blocking of teammate Tim Boyd (Rockland, MA) Festa scampered in the end zone from four yards out to put the Gulls up 14-0. Just before the half Endicott moved into field goal range and Adam Maher's (Athol, MA) 31-yard kick was good for an Endicott 17-7 advantage at halftime.

Following a quick Salve Regina score early in the second half, Endicott responded with a rushing touchdown from Festa a few minutes later, and that would be the end of scoring in the contest. Sophomore safety David Gilmore's (Londonderry, N.H.) interception in the end zone thwarted the last Seahawk drive of the afternoon.

Endicott College (4-3; 3-0 NEFC Boyd) welcomes Curry College (5-1; 3-1 NEFC Boyd) to Beverly for a 12:00 Homecoming match-up.
