Equestrian Caps Opening Weekend With Fifth Place Showing At Vermont

WILLISTON, Vt. – The Endicott equestrian team wrapped up its opening weekend of the 2016 season with a fifth place finish at the University of Vermont show on Sunday.

Nicole McClellan (Tolland, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls' efforts with a first place performance in intermediate fences.

Endicott also saw Jessica Hemphill (Essex Junction, Vt.), Kate Moore (Scarborough, Maine), McKenzie Paiva (Mansfield, Mass.), and Kelly Rhinelander (Georgetown, Mass.) produce runner-up placements in the following events – beginner walk trot canter, novice fences, novice flat, and advanced walk trot canter.

"The team came together as a whole and everyone competed hard," said Endicott equestrian head coach Bethany Jones. "We had some tough draws and glitches in a couple of classes but I couldn't be more proud of the cohesiveness between all of these athletes. We are now on to the next show, which is next weekend at Bowdoin."

OTHER SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Paiva also finished fifth in novice fences.
  • Jamie Smith (Hanover, Mass.) ranked third in beginner walk trot canter.
  • Shannon Day (Westford, Mass.) came in third in novice fences.
  • Julia Cirignano (Winchester, Mass.) and Emily Teel (Somers, Conn.) both placed third in novice flat, while Meredith Bemus (Wilton, Conn.) was fourth in the same event.
  • Lillian Dugan (Butler, N.J.) and Gianna D'Aprile (Millis, Mass.) turned in fourth place performances in intermediate flat, and fifth place showings in intermediate fences.
  • Silvia Graf (New London, N.H.) concluded the list of highlights for the Gulls ranking fifth in open fences and sixth in open flat.

Endicott will return to action next Saturday, October 15 at the Bowdoin Show in Nobleboro, Maine.
