LOWELL, Mass. – The Endicott club crew team opened up its 2016 season last Saturday at the Textile River Regatta in the varsity women's open four event and placed 13th overall with a time of 30:05.872.

Endicott's lineup consisted of Brenna Shanahan (Shelton, Conn.) at stroke, Gabrielle Wiggin (Lebanon, Maine) at the 3-seat, Kendra Kirby (Redding, Conn.) at the two, Claire McKinnon (Boston, Mass.) at the bow, and Michaela Raftery (Nashua, N.H.) at coxswain.

The Gulls competed against several teams in the open four event including Bowdoin, UMass Lowell, Simmons, and Bryant University, and also topped Mass. Maritime by more than 20-seconds (36:25.030).

"The first race of the year is always tough, and we haven't had much water time so we weren't sure what to expect. They did a great job setting a good rhythm early and holding all race. The most important thing about this first race is what they take home and then bring to practice this week, and what lessons they learn from the race," said Endicott club crew head coach John Leekley. "Results wise, these fall races are usually competitions that mix colleges and some club teams with post-college athletes that have a ton of experience and train consistently, so where you finish is less important than how you row. It's a good start, now we just have to go back to work."
