Crew Hosts First Regatta in EC History

This Halloween marked a couple of firsts, as the New England Collegiate Rowing League and Endicott college hosted the Gull's first-ever home regatta on the Porter, Danvers, and North Rivers in Danvers, Salem, and Beverly, MA.

After nearly 6 months of planning with each city’s rec department, Harbor Masters, and League participants, the rowers and coxswains christened the never-previously-rowed course despite the strong winds that picked up throughout the day.  Unfortunately the Gull's prime events, the women's varsity 4+ and mixed 4+, were canceled as  wind readings along the course hit 25-30 mph and it became difficult for coxswains to hold their course.

A couple of Endicott rowers did get to take to the rivers as
Freshman Miles Auger continued his strong fall semester by placing 2nd in a composite boat with Wentworth's men's novice B crew.  Coxswain Kaitlyn Walker also got her chance to prove her mettle
with Wentworth's women's novice B crew.  Unfortunately, just as the women's varsity 4+ approached the start of the race (upriver from the launch point), the race official called them back as conditions were becoming unsafe.  In their cancelled quest to be the first women's team to place first at an NECRL regatta, it is written here that they were the favorites.  Despite the homecooking, it was not to be-YET.

A huge thank you goes out to all the NECRL coaches, the Endicott athletic dept, the Salem Parks & Recreation Commission, and Salem, Danvers, and Beverly Harbormasters for making the regatta possible.  2010 will be even more successful.  Next, the Gulls will migrate indoors for winter training as they prepare for the spring 'sprint' season.
