MARION, Mass. – The Endicott men's ice hockey team kicked off 2015 on the road over the weekend as they traveled to Roger Williams on Sunday. Senior Brendan Moore (Springfield, Mass.) tallied the game winner in the final minute of play in the third period to give the Gulls a 4-3 victory. Endicott improves to 7-7-3 on the season as they look to celebrate Senior Night on their last home game of the season on Thursday, January 29th at 8:00 p.m. vs. Providence.
The first period was an absolute battle as the Blue and Green just held a 3-2 edge over the Hawks. Senior Dana Boudreau (Plymouth, Mass.) started the scoring early on after working to goal with junior Mark Pettingill (Scarborough, Maine) and senior Ryan Hansen (West Haven, Conn.) to beat the Roger Williams defense.
After 12 minutes of back and forth action, the Gulls took a 2-0 advantage after seniors Alex Dodds (Grantham, N.H.) and Jake Rand (Winthrop, Mass.) made a combo play to goal, ending with Dodds finding the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Two minutes later Boudreau notched his second goal of the game with help from Hansen and sophomore Conor Clement (Danvers, Mass.) to give Endicott the 3-0 lead.
The Hawks did not let the lead last for long as they picked up their game in the final minutes of the first period as Lucas Zuspan (Pasadena, Md.) rallied with back to back goals in a two minute span to cut the lead down to one.
In the second period the Hawks scored the lone goal of the second set of 20 minutes as Jeffrey Demers (Avon, Mass.) scored the game tying goal in the 12th minute to end the second period stuck at a 3-3 stalemate.
As the game clock was ticking down in the third period, both sides saw an overtime period ahead. However, Moore was eager to end the game in regulation as he took advantage of a power play opportunity and made a combo play to goal with freshman Kyle Webb (Reading, Mass.) and notched the game winner with 1:04 remaining in the game for the victory.
