No. 3 Trinity (Tex.) Tops Endicott, 12-4

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Endicott baseball team fell to No. 3 nationally ranked Trinity (Tex.) University, 12-4, on Friday night in its 2020 season opener.

Corey Cater (Sacramento, Calif.) earned the win (2-0) on six innings pitched, four hits, four runs (all earned), three walks, and a game-high 11 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Cooper Anibal (Bedford, N.H.) took the loss (0-1) via 1 2/3 innings, three hits, five runs (three earned), three free passes, and one strikeout.

Trailing 5-0 in the top of the third inning, Endicott answered with a three-run frame behind RBI singles from John Duffy (Stratford, Conn.) and Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) before the duo went on to execute a perfect double steal that sent Duffy home for the third and final run of the inning.

Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) plated a run with a groundout to first base in the sixth to bring the game within one (5-4), but the Tigers responded with five runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to shore up the victory, their fifth straight to start their 2020 campaign.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This was the fourth meeting in the all-time series between the two programs.
  • Tonight's game was the home opener for the Tigers.
  • Joseph Brown (Poultney, Vt.) pitched two scoreless innings out of the pen for the Gulls. It's his sixth scoreless relief appearance of two or more innings in his career.
  • Brennan went 2-for-3 with one run scored, an RBI, a triple (sixth career), and a walk. 
  • Last season, Brennan logged 12 multi-hit games for the Gulls.

Endicott (0-1) and Trinity (5-0) will play game two of their three-game weekend series tomorrow at 2 PM (EST).
