Baseball Edges Salem State, 5-3

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team defeated Salem State University, 5-3, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at North Field.

Endicott (23-18) starter Kevin Gould (Rollinsford, N.H.) picked up the win (6-2) on seven innings, eight hits, three runs (all earned), two walks, and a game-high five strikeouts. Cooper Anibal (Bedford, N.H.) also tossed a scoreless eighth inning, while Will Bryant (Cumberland, Maine) converted his fifth save of the season with a shutdown ninth (0 H, 1 BB).

Meanwhile, JP Reiling (Nahant, Mass.) took the loss (0-1) via two innings of work, no hits, one run (earned), and two free passes.

The Gulls jumped on the scoreboard early with an RBI groundout from Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. From there, Endicott added four more runs in the fourth as Ryan Prosser (Holden, Mass.) notched a two-run double to left center, while Anthony Macchia (Ridgefield, Conn.) followed with an RBI, and Christian Allaire (Sandown, N.H.) capped the scoring with an RBI base hit to right field.

Salem State (18-19) answered with a three-run home run off the bat of Mike Griffin (Hudson, N.H.) in the sixth, but Anibal and Bryant responded out of the pen for the Gulls to lock up the win after Gould completed the sixth himself.
