Baseball Holds Off Gordon, 7-6

WENHAM, Mass. — The Endicott baseball team turned in a 7-6 conference victory over crosstown rival Gordon College on Thursday evening at J. Tec White Field.

Endicott reliever Joseph Brown (Poultney, Vt.) earned the win (2-2) on two scoreless frames out of the pen (1 H, 0 BB, 1 K). Meanwhile, Liam Burke (Westwood, Mass.) notched his second save of the season via two scoreless innings of work, no hits, one walk, and a strikeout.

Tied 2-2 in the third inning, Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) put the Gulls ahead with a solo home run (second of the season) before Endicott added one more run in the fifth on an error and a three-spot in the sixth to make it 7-2.

Those insurance runs proved to be crucial for the Gulls as Gordon responded with a four-run seventh inning to make the contest a one-run ball game (7-6). From there, Burke thwarted the Fighting Scots' comeback bid over the next two innings, as the left-handed reliever did not allow a base runner to reach scoring position in either frame.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott improved to 36-11 in the all-time series.
  • Christian Allaire (Sandown, N.H.), Benjamin Schena (Cheshire, Conn.), and Matt Bald (De Pere, Wisc.) all drove in runs in the three-run sixth. The trio ranks fifth, sixth, and third on the team in RBI this season, respectively.
  • Gordon dropped to 5-5 at home this year with the loss.
