Baseball Sweeps Salve Regina, 6-0 & 10-2

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team swept Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader by scores of 6-0 and 10-2 on Sunday evening at North Field.

GAME ONE: Endicott 6, Salve Regina 0

Kevin Gould (Rollinsford, N.H.) was dominant from start to finish as the senior right-hander spun a three-hit, two-walk, 11-strikeout (tied career-high) gem on 118 pitches (76 strikes) to move his record to 4-0 on the season. Gould also registered three 1-2-3 innings and only allowed one base runner to reach second base.

Meanwhile, the shutout was the second complete game shutout of his career.

Offensively, Christian Allaire (Sandown, N.H.) gave the Gulls the only run they needed in the fifth inning with an RBI single up the middle.

Endicott also saw Jordan Carvalho (Rehoboth, Mass.) drive in a run via a double to in the sixth before the Gulls busted things open in the ninth with three runs. Matt Bald (De Pere, Wisc.) highlighted the frame with a two-run single up the middle to cap the scoring.

GAME TWO: Endicott 10, Salve Regina 2

Alexander Mandrus (Acton, Mass.) picked up the win (3-2) with his longest relief outing of the season via 3 2/3 innings, two hits, and no runs. Mandrus' most notable inning was the second as the junior right-hander induced the first batter he faced into an inning-ending double play with runners at the corners after Endicott took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the frame.

Meanwhile, Endicott's 1-2-3-4 hitters were red-hot in game two as the quartet went 12-for-21 (.571) with three runs scored and eight RBI.

Benjamin Schena (Cheshire, Conn.) was 3-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI out of the leadoff spot, while Bald posted a 5-for-6 line with two runs scored and two RBI from the two-spot. Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) went 1-for-5 with two RBI in the three-hole and Carvalho rounded out the group in the cleanup spot with a 3-for-5 and one RBI showing.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Bald tied the program's single-game hit record (5) in game two.
  • His name is now in the record books with Anthony Serina '17 (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Brennan.
  • Bald also went 7-for-11 (.636) with two runs scored, one double and four RBI.
  • Endicott is now 8-4 at home this season.
  • The Gulls have won five games in a row.

Endicott (18-9, 8-1 CCC) travels to Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday, April 16 at 4 PM. Salve Regina (16-11, 5-5 CCC) hosts Worcester State University on Monday, April 15 at 3:30 PM.
