Baseball Splits Conference Matchup With Curry

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team split a pair of conference games against Curry College on Saturday evening at North Field. Endicott took game one, 5-0, but fell in the second matchup of the day, 3-2.

GAME ONE: Endicott 5, Curry 0

Kevin Gould (Rollinsford, N.H.) improved to 3-0 on the season behind 6 2/3 innings pitched, four hits, three walks, and a game-high eight strikeouts. Meanwhile, Alexander Mandrus (Acton, Mass.) shut the door on the remainder of the contest only yielding one hit alongside three punchouts.

Endicott wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the matchup with two runs in the first (double steal/RBI groundout) and then let Gould and Mandrus put the game in cruise control the rest of the way.

The remaining runs in the game featured an RBI single from Christian Jordan (Holden, Mass.) in the second and run-producing groundouts via Brendan McDonald (Quincy, Mass.) and Matt Bald (De Pere, Wisc.) in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

GAME TWO: Curry 3, Endicott 2

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the eighth inning, Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) ripped a go-ahead three-run home run to deep left center field to give the Colonels a late 3-2 advantage that held up.

Endicott starter Zachary Sultar (South Windsor, Conn.) was dealt the no-decision despite a fine outing that featured seven shutout innings, two hits, no walks, and a game-high eight strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Curry reliever Jack Needham (Raynham, Mass.) earned the win (1-1) via three innings, one hit, no runs, and a walk.

The Gulls built up their 2-0 lead off of RBI singles from Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) and Christian Allaire (Sandown, N.H.) in fourth and fifth innings before Leonard came through with the three-run homer.

  • Endicott is 31-18 all-time against Curry.
