ENDICOTT COLLEGE PROGRAMS OF STUDY | INTERNSHIPS AND CAREERS

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Here's a look into baseball student-athlete and business management major Kyle Wollman's '19 (East Berlin, Conn.) internship experience at PUMA.

ECGULLS: Describe your overall internship experience.

WOLLMAN: My experience at PUMA can only be described in one word, amazing. It has really given me insight into what life after college is all about. I had many different thoughts going in on the first day but in just a quick month or so at PUMA I honestly think it has changed me and for the better. It challenges me but at the same time, with a relaxed environment, has made me enjoy each and every moment.

ECGULLS: What have you learned from your internship?

WOLLMAN: From this internship, I have learned what it takes to be successful in the business but more importantly what I personally need to do on a daily basis to become successful in whatever career I choose down the road. I have learned that it takes hard work to be that businessman or businesswoman we all want to be, however, at the same, time doing something you love is also important and it makes that journey that much more enjoyable. Lastly, I have learned that some of the most successful people in this world develop and perfect a routine and that is something that has helped both on and off the field as a college athlete. It's one of those things that without my internship, I would not have focus as much on as I usually do and those things just can't be taught to you from a textbook.

ECGULLS: How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

WOLLMAN: It will help me understand all the little things that will help me accomplish all the goals I want to achieve. It will also help me stay ahead of the pack once I do enter the work world because I have already had that experience, and most college students don't get that. Lastly, it will give me a leg up on all other students, and that one day could separate me from others.

THE ENDICOTT INTERNSHIP MODEL

A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.

Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:

  • Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
  • Develop competencies for careers and community service
  • Explore career options and gain field experience
  • Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
  • Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner

"The Endicott internship model allows students to have multiple opportunities throughout their college experience to discover their passions, bolster career confidence, and develop a marketable skill set while creating a professional network that will serve them well after graduation," said Endicott's Dean of the Internship and Career Center Eric Hall. "Endicott students leave with the career-readiness competencies and passion needed to excel in today's workforce."
