CCC CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: No. 1 Salve Regina Defeats No. 2 Endicott In Game One, 12-2

NEWPORT, R.I. – The second-seeded Endicott baseball team fell to first-seeded Salve Regina in game one of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship Series (best-of-three) by a 12-2 score on a chilly Friday afternoon at Brother Michael Reynolds Field. Game two of the CCC Championship Series is scheduled to be played at 4 PM later today. 

Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) remained undefeated on the season (7-0) over seven innings of work, alongside seven hits, one run (earned), one walk, and a game-high nine strikeouts (four looking). 

Meanwhile, Endicott starter Kevin Gould (Rollinsford, N.H.) received his first loss of the year (6-1) on three innings pitched, eight hits, six runs (all earned), one free pass, and a punchout. 

The Seahawks went ahead 1-0 in the first with a sacrifice fly to left field, but broke the game wide open over the next three frames with a four-run second and a six-run fourth, and never looked back.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With today's win, Salve Regina moved to 28-27 all-time versus Endicott.
  • Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) ripped a solo home run to left field in the sixth for his fourth dinger of the season (tied second in the conference).
  • Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth to make it 12-2. It was his 14th walk of the year, and 23 RBI.
  • Nick Berno (St. Albans, Vt.), Kochiss, and Steve Morganelli (Milford, Mass.) all had multi-hit games in the loss. Kochiss highlighted the group with a 2-for-3 line at the plate in addition to two runs scored, a solo homer, one RBI, and two walks.

FOR THE FOES

  • John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, and one RBI from the leadoff spot in the lineup.
  • Brody Santilli (Lincoln, R.I.) was 3-for-4 with one run scored, and three RBI.
  • Hunter Sleeper (Arlington, Mass.) made it 4-0 in the second with a two-run single up the middle. He finished the contest 2-for-5 with one run scored, and two RBI.
  • Christian Vargas (Melbourne, Fla.) had the Seahawks' only other multi-RBI hit with a two-run single up the middle in the fourth. He ended the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored, and two RBI.
  • As a team, Salve Regina combined for 12 runs on 16 hits (only two extra-base hits, both doubles).

WHAT'S NEXT

Second-seeded Endicott (25-18) takes on first-seeded Salve Regina (33-10) in game two of the CCC Championship Series (best-of-three) at 4 PM. If No. 20/23 nationally ranked Salve Regina wins then the Seahawks will represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament next weekend. If Endicott wins, the Gulls force the if game scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at 11 AM. The start time for the if game is subject to change depending on the forecast for tomorrow.
