BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team posted a dominant 14-5 non-league victory over MIT on Wednesday night at North Field.
Nick Quattro (Canton, Conn.) earned the win (6-3) in relief via 2 1/3 innings pitched, one hit, one run (earned), one walk, and a game-high seven strikeouts. Meanwhile, MIT reliever Nick Charchut (Santa Monica, Calif.) suffered the loss (0-2) on one-third of an inning, one hit, four runs (all earned), and three free passes.
Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third, Endicott struck for five runs highlighted by RBIs from Steve Morganelli (Milford, Mass.), Chris Seidl (Dracut, Mass.), Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.), and Ian Schmidt (Plymouth, Conn.).
MIT brought the game within three runs (7-4) in the top of the sixth, but a seven-run frame in the bottom half of that same inning put the game away for the Gulls for good. Joseph Deutsch (Fairfield, Conn.) capped the seven-run inning with his first career grand slam (also his first career homer).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 10-3 overall against MIT in the all-time series, and 1-1 versus the Engineers in 2017.
- Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three walks. Kochiss has now reached base safely in 11 straight games (second-highest streak on the squad).
- Victor Molle (Peabody, Mass.) tossed his ninth scoreless appearance out of the pen today (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, eighth inning).
FOR THE FOES
- Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) went 1-for-2 with one run scored and three walks. Filiere has walked at least once in 21 games this season, and also recorded 14 multi-walk games that includes a single-game program record five walks versus Endicott back on March 30, 2017.
- MIT's first two runs came on RBI groundouts, before Jared Schwait (Boca Raton, Fla.) notched a run-producing single to left in the fifth. Schwait finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI.
- John Drago (Peoria, Ariz.) had an RBI double in the sixth, while Garrett Greenwood (Edmond, Okla.) concluded the scoring in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to center field.
WHAT'S NEXT
Second-seeded Endicott (23-16) will play the winner of No. 6 Gordon and No. 3 Western New England in game four of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Saturday, May 6 at home at 12 PM.
