Baseball Splits With Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Endicott baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Wesleyan (Conn.) on Saturday evening at Dresser Diamond. Endicott fell in game one, 6-3, but rebounded in game two with a decisive 16-4 victory to earn the split. Game one of today's doubleheader was seven innings, while game two was a full nine. 

GAME ONE: Wesleyan 6, Endicott 3 

Mike McCaffrey (Warwick, R.I.) earned the win on six innings pitched, four hits, three runs (two earned), five walks, and seven strikeouts. Ryan Earle (Hanover, Mass.) collected his second save of the season with a clean seventh inning, which included one strikeout. 

Colby Morris (Newburyport, Mass.) took the loss via four innings of work, five hits, four runs (two earned), and two free passes. 

The Cardinals erased an early 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first with a three-run frame, highlighted by an RBI triple from Matt Jeye (Holliston, Mass.) and a run-producing single by Nick Miceli (West Hartford, Conn.)

Wesleyan also added solo runs in the last three innings of game one to lock up the victory. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) had a two-run single in the fifth. He finished 1-for-3 with two RBI from the cleanup spot in the lineup. It marks his second multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) gave Endicott a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single to center. 

FOR THE FOES

  • Will O'Sullivan (Needham, Mass.), Jeye, and Alec Olmstead (Palo Alto, Calif.) all had multi-hit games.
  • Jeye led the group with two RBI, while O'Sullivan tied Miceli for the game-high in runs scored with two. 

GAME TWO: Endicott 16, Wesleyan 4 

The Gulls responded in game two with a season-high 16 runs to secure a split with Wesleyan. 

Chris Seidl (Dracut, Mass.) gave Endicott a lift in the first inning with a three-run bomb, while Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) headlined a six-run third inning for the Gulls with a two-run single to right field. 

Endicott also added five runs in the eighth keyed by a solo homer from Kochiss and a two-run triple from Joseph Deutsch (Fairfield, Conn.)

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Seven Endicott student-athletes registered multi-hit games, led by Kochiss who went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and one RBI.
  • DeDonato was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI (sixth multi-RBI game of the year).
  • Seidl knocked in a career-high six RBI. His previous career-high was five set on May 3, 2016 against Saint Joseph's (Me.). 

FOR THE FOES

  • Jeye went 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI in the loss.
  • Jesse Levy-Rubinett (Austin, Texas) was 2-for-2 with one run scored and one walk. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (14-12) travels to Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday, April 18 for a non-conference game at 4 PM. Wesleyan (14-8) hosts Eastern Connecticut State University on Monday, April 17 at 4 PM.
