BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team rallied for five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn an 8-7 walk-off win versus Framingham State in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at North Field.
Tied 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth with runners at first and third base, Endicott freshman catcher Ian Schmidt (Plymouth, Conn.) sent the Gulls' bench storming onto the field when he laced an opposite field, one-hopper deep into the hole at second base to score Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) from the third for the game-winning run. Rams' second baseman Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) did make a diving stop on the ball in the direction of first base but had no chance at a throw after getting up from the turf.
Endicott scored all five of its runs with one out in the ninth. Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) and DeDonato worked bases loaded walks, while Anthony Serina (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch, and Chris Seidl (Dracut, Mass.) and Schmidt followed with back-to-back RBI singles to complete the come-from-behind victory.
Alexander Mandrus (Acton, Mass.) picked up his first collegiate win (1-2) in relief on one scoreless inning. Michael Raymond (Peabody, Mass.) was tagged with the loss (1-2) allowing all five runs to score in his only inning out of the pen for Framingham State in the ninth.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 8-0 in the all-time series versus Framingham St.
- The Gulls trailed 7-0 headed into the bottom of the seventh but rallied from their largest deficit in a comeback victory this season with one run in that half inning, two more in the eighth, and five in the ninth to earn.
FOR THE FOES
- Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) saw his quality start end in a no-decision as the sophomore left-hander tossed seven innings, yielded just four hits, one run (unearned), and one walk, alongside three strikeouts.
- Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) collected the lone multi-hit game for the Rams in the loss. Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, and one walk.
