BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team defeated No. 23 nationally ranked Southern Maine, 10-6, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at North Field.
Colby Morris (Newburyport, Mass.) earned the win (1-1) in his first career start on five-plus innings pitched, three hits, three runs (two earned), two walks, and two strikeouts. Nick Quattro (Canton, Conn.) closed the door over the final four innings for the Gulls to collect his third save of the season. Quattro yielded five hits, three runs (all earned), and one walk alongside a game-high five punchouts.
Southern Maine sophomore reliever Matt Correale (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the loss via 3 2/3 innings, four hits, four runs (two earned), zero walks, and four strikeouts. Henry Curran (South Portland, Maine), the Huskies starter, did not record an out to begin the contest. His pitching line consisted of zero hits, two runs (one earned), and three free passes.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the second, Endicott broke open the tie via a throwing error and a Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) two-run double to left center field. The Gulls followed with two more runs in the fourth, and another four runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Joseph Deutsch (Fairfield, Conn.) and Nick Berno (St. Albans, Vt.) picked up RBIs in the fourth, while Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.), Deutsch, and Matt Bald (De Pere, Wisc.) all drove in runs in the fifth. Endicott's only other run in the fourth scored on a wild pitch.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Ian Schmidt (Plymouth, Conn.) reached base in all four of his plate appearances (one double, two singles, and a walk), and also scored three times. Schmidt has now reached base safely in three straight games, and eight times overall this season.
- Deutsch and Kochiss both finished with two RBIs each. It marks the first multi-RBI game of Deutsch's career and third for Kochiss this season.
- The Gulls are 3-0 against nationally ranked opponents this season.
- Endicott improved its record to 3-2 at home on the year.
FOR THE FOES
- Paul McDonough (Wells, Maine) brought the game within striking distance in the sixth with a three-run blast to left center field to make it a 10-5 game, at the time.
- McDonough then cut into the deficit again in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to right field. The senior first baseman finished his day at the plate 1-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI.
- Jake Dexter (Oakland, Maine) tied up the contest for the Huskies in the second with a two-run double to deep left center field. Dexter was 1-for-4 with two RBIs in the loss.
- Tanner Laberge (Windham, Maine) was effective out of the bullpen as the sophomore reliever tossed two hitless/scoreless frames and only allowed one walk.
- Southern Maine is ranked No. 23 in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Poll.

Endicott (7-5) hosts MIT tomorrow in a non-conference clash at 3:30 PM. No. 23 Southern Maine (7-5) will take on MIT the following day in Gorham, Maine at 1 PM.
