BEVERLY, Mass. – Sunday's summer solstice kicked off the official start to the warm weather months and 20 of Endicott's returning baseball student-athletes are competing in summer leagues, logging important at-bats and innings on the mound in preparation of another collegiate season.
"Playing at a high level during the summer is a critical component of developing as a player and maximizing one's potential," said head coach Bryan Haley, who going into his ninth season at Endicott has led the Gulls to 223 wins (.616 win percentage), two CCC Championships, and two NCAA New England Regional Finals appearances.
"The experience gained through a large number of plate appearances or innings pitched/appearances on the mound during the summer helps players to develop a better feel for who they are as a player while refining their approach to the game and implementing a recipe on how to succeed and excel against a high level opponent."
Haley's emphasis on maintaining a high level of competition during the summer months not only impacts a players readiness for fall ball and the college season but could also prove as a catalyst for post-graduation careers.
"The players who have had the most success within our program and the players who have gone on to play baseball beyond college all put a great deal of time in playing during the summer months."
