Bats Come Alive in Endicott's 22-8 Win over Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Endicott bats came alive in a 22-8 non-conference win over NESCAC opponent Bates on Saturday afternoon as the Gulls produced 22 runs on 22 hits as every member of the Gulls starting lineup scored a run and recorded a hit off Bates pitching. Gulls catcher Josh Drew (Intervale, N.H.) had his second career four-hit game as the junior finished 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBI.

Endicott (18-11) returns to their conference schedule on Sunday, April 19th at home for two games against Curry starting at noon. Bates (8-10) travels to Williams on Sunday for a NESCAC doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.

The Gulls trailed the Bobcats 5-3 going into the top of the sixth inning but Endicott put up six runs in the inning to take a 9-5 lead. Bates trimmed the Endicott lead down to 9-6 with a run in the bottom of the seventh but in the eighth and ninth innings combined, Endicott generated 13 runs on 12 hits and three Bates errors to take command of the game.

Gulls sophomore third baseman Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) drove in a team-high four runs on a 3-for-7 day at the plate while senior captain and second baseman Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Along with Drew, junior designated hitter Anthony Serina (Portsmouth, R.I.) crossed the home plate four times as he reached on a single, a double, and two walks. Junior right fielder Matthew Paola (Middlebury, Conn.) and junior first baseman Nicholas De Lotto (Southbury, Conn.) each scored three times while Paola added two RBI. Paola also had three stolen bases while Serina swiped one bag.

Freshman Daniel Zabbo (Dracut, Mass.) had a strong day at the plate out of the nine-hole, going 2-for-4 with two walks, two runs scored, and two RBI. Fellow freshman Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) went 2-for-6 with two runs, a RBI, and a walk.

Junior shortstop Cody Hall (Rutland, Mass.) went 1-for-5 with a run, a RBI, and a walk in the win.

On the mound for Endicott, left-handers Luke Morse (Westford, Mass.) and Zac Poland (Essex Junction, Vt.) combined to throw all nine innings for the Blue and Green against Bates. Morse (3-2) earned the win despite giving up five earned runs over 5 2/3 innings on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Poland registered his first collegiate save by going the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
