Zac Poland Shutout Garners CCC Pitcher of the Week Honors

CCC Athletes of the Week – Week Ending April 5th

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – For his performance on the mound in a game two shutout of CCC rival Wentworth, Endicott senior pitcher Zac Poland (Essex Junction, Vt.) has been named conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in his collegiate career. Poland effort was part of a 4-1 week for the Gulls that included doubleheader sweeps of both the Leopards and Nichols.

Poland (2-2) has now thrown back-to-back complete game shutouts and has lowered his season ERA nearly four runs after his first three appearances of the 2015. On the spring, Poland sports a 2.35 ERA with six earned runs allowed in 23.0 IP.

In game two against Wentworth on Friday, Poland scattered six hits and walked no one while striking out two batters as Endicott completed a two-game sweep of the Leopards. The Gulls won 9-0 as the offense came alive with 13 hits including a three-run homerun to left by Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) that capped off a five-run top of the second inning. Fifty-four of Poland's 80 pitches went for strikes and he set down the Wentworth lineup 1-2-3 in the fifth and sixth innings with the Gulls offense scoring in the top half of both of those innings.

Poland and his Endicott teammates look ahead to a six-game slate this week starting with GNAC rival Suffolk on Monday at North Field starting at 3:30 p.m. This game was originally scheduled to be played at Suffolk but was relocated due to poor field conditions. Suffolk remains the home team in the scorebook.
