CCC Honors Nick Quattro as Pitcher of the Week

CCC Athletes of the Week – Week Ending March 29th

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott junior reliever Nick Quattro (Canton, Conn.) went 2-0 on the mound last week as he threw 10 2/3 scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking out 13 batters. Quattro was recognized for his consistency for an Endicott baseball team that went 5-1 last week with CCC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Quattro's marquee performance of the week came in Endicott's 11-inning affair with Eastern Nazarene on Friday night. Quattro shutdown the Lions lineup over the final 6 2/3 innings of the game, allowing no hits while striking out nine as the Gulls completed a doubleheader sweep of Eastern Nazarene in their CCC opener.

Quattro also pitched in game one against Eastern Nazarene in relief of starter Luke Morse (Westford, Mass.). Morse left the game after 4 1/3 strong innings and left Quattro with runners on first and second with one out in the top of the fifth in a 1-1 game. He escaped the jam by forcing a fielder's choice groundout to third and getting the third out via strikeout. Quattro went on to pitch the final two frames to earn the victory in game one.

Against #9/12 Southern Maine last Wednesday, Quattro got four outs after inheriting a two-on, no-out situation with Endicott leading 2-1 in the top of the seventh. USM hit a chopper to third with a runner only 90 feet from home which allowed the game-tying run to score but Quattro settled in to get a strikeout, pickoff a runner on first, and cause an infield pop out to end the inning.

On the season, Quattro is 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA and a .120 batting average against. He has struck out 20 batters in 15 1/3 innings pitched.

Quattro and the Gulls baseball squad take on Little East rival Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, March 31st starting at 4:00 p.m. on North Field.
