Martinez, Oringer, and Player of the Year Gold Headline ECAC Awards

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Tad Gold (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) collected his third regional Player of the Year award this spring as the former Endicott outfielder headlined the 2014 ECAC Division III New England All-Star Team and led a group of three Gulls who earned All-New England status. Gold was named ECAC New England Player of the Year and a First Team All-Star while catcher EJ Martinez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and second baseman Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) were placed on the Second Team.

Gold was already named New England Player of the Year by D3Baseball.com and NEIBA after posting career-high numbers in his senior season with the Blue and Green. After receiving recognition by conference and regional organizations, Gold was awarded National Player of the Year by D3Baseball.com as well as First Team All-American honors by both D3Baseball.com and the ABCA.

Gold was one of the top players in the country during the 2014 season, batting .429 with 45 RBI and 60 runs scored. He rapped out 79 hits in 49 games, including 18 doubles and nine triples for a .625 slugging percentage. Gold posted a .493 on-base percentage, swiped 28 bases and led Endicott to both its second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament championship and its second straight trip to the NCAA Division III New England Regional final. Defensively, he did not commit a single error in 94 total chances in centerfield. He was recently selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft.

In his final season at Endicott, Martinez had a career year after sporting a .410/.470/.576 slash line with 44 RBI, 27 runs, and 12 stolen bases. Seventeen of his 57 hits were for extra bases including 14 doubles and three homeruns. Martinez had a .979 fielding percentage and threw out five runners on the base paths. Martinez was previously honored as an All-New England First Team player by D3Baseball.com and NEIBA after already collecting All-CCC First Team.

Oringer, who joined Gold on the D3Baseball.com All-American squad as a Second Teamer, batted .383 in his junior season with 36 RBI, 47 runs, and 11 stolen bases. Oringer got on base at a .489 clip courtesy of 70 hits, 18 walks, and 21 HBPs and slugged .536 as he totaled 16 doubles, three triples, and two homeruns. He was stellar defensively with a .976 fielding percentage, committing just six errors on 254 total chances. Oringer was previously named All-CCC First Team, D3Baseball.com All-New England First Team, and NEIBA Second Team.
