2014 CCC Baseball Tournament Bracket
BEVERLY, Mass. – The top-seeded Endicott baseball team remained unbeaten in the 2014 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament after eliminating #4 Salve Regina from contention following a 10-4 victory at North Field on Saturday. The Gulls scored in each of the first four innings, including four in the top of the first, and got a nine-inning complete-game from freshman lefty Luke Morse (Westford, Mass.) as the region's fifth-ranked team improved to 28-12 on the year.
Endicott faces off against #3 Western New England on Sunday, May 4th at 11:00 am with the Golden Bears coming off a 15-1 triumph over #5 Gordon on Saturday. Endicott took a pair of regular season conference games from Western New England in Springfield (W 2-1, W 6-2) back on Sunday, April 6th.
Against the Seahawks on Saturday, Morse (5-4) threw six shutout innings before Salve Regina tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh. By that point, Endicott had already built a 10-0 lead in the game thanks to two-RBI games from senior designated hitter EJ Martinez (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior catcher Chase Sullivan (Cumberland, R.I.), and sophomore right fielder Steve Morganelli (Milford, Mass.).
Morganelli made a splash with two homeruns in the game, crushing solo jobs in the third and sixth innings to take over the team lead with four long balls. Sullivan had three hits on the day including a RBI single to cap off the four-run bottom of the first and a double to left center that plated Martinez in the fourth. Martinez accumulated both of his RBIs in the bottom of the first as his single through the infield scored senior Tad Gold (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) and junior Harry Oringer (Mass.).
Salve Regina finally got to Morse in the top of the seventh as a double down the left field line by sophomore left fielder Ryan Sweenor (South Kingstown, R.I.) scored senior right fielder Tyler Colby (Easton, Conn.) to account for the Seahawks first run. On the next play, an Endicott error allowed another run to score to make it a 10-2 game. Two innings later and facing an eight-run deficit, Salve Regina added two more runs on Endicott's third error of the game.
Gulls senior first baseman Brett Holmgren (Middleboro, Mass.), along with Sullivan, recorded three hits in the game while contributing with a RBI single through the infield in the third. Freshman leadoff hitter Cam Farnham (Andover, Mass.), as well as Gold, extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-for-5 day at the plate with two runs scored.
