SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott junior second baseman Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) was named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week after batting .524 with nine RBI and four runs scored in the team's final six games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational last week. The Gulls went 4-2 overall during that stretch and will head into their first week of competition back in Beverly with a 5-2 overall record.
Oringer recorded 11 hits in 21 at bats, which included four multi-hit games, and reached first base seven more times on two walks on five hit-by-pitch. He turned in a .621 on-base percentage, a .667 slugging percentage, and an errorless performance at second base with 22 assists and 15 putouts.
In a day-night doubleheader with Trinity (Conn.) and William Paterson, Oringer went 4-for-6 with two RBI. Both of his RBIs came in a loss to William Paterson as he knocked in a run in the fifth inning on a single and later tripled in the top of the eighth to plate Endicott's final run.
After an off-day, Oringer picked up where he left off with a 2-for-3 game against Ramapo in which he used an infield single in the top of the third to score the game's first run, part of a four-run inning for Endicott. The Gulls played another doubleheader on Friday, sweeping Benedictine (Ill.) and Oswego State. Oringer's two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth helped push Endicott's lead from 3-2 up to 8-2 as they went on to win by eight runs. Oringer added another RBI in the team's nightcap win, 5-4 over Oswego, on a double to left center in the top of the second.
Endicott's final game of the week, an 11-6 victory over Elmhurst, saw Oringer create his biggest offensive output of the week with three RBIs as he wrapped his spring break 2-for-4 at the plate.
Oringer is looking to take yet another step forward in his development as he jumped 60 points in batting average from 2012 to 2013 (.280 to .341). He was named to the All-CCC First Team after batting .341 with 33 RBI, 44 runs, and 14 stolen bases last spring.
