Gulls take one of two against Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H. - Endicott College scored 11 runs in a three inning span to blow open a 1-0 contest, as the Gulls took game, 11-1, and then fell in game two, 5-3, against New England College on Tuesday in Henniker, N.H. With the split, Endicott moves to 7-9 overall and evens its conference record to 2-2. The win marks the first TCCC win of the year for the Pilgrims, as NEC goes to 4-8 and 1-5 in Conference play.

The Pilgrims would get on the board early in game one plating a run in the bottom of the first. The Gulls would respond with three runs in the third and then explode for seven runs on seven hits in the top of the sixth giving them the 11-1 advantage. The Pilgrims would try to muster base runners in both the sixth and seventh but Endicott pitcher Nick Kelly (Malden, Mass.) would shutdown the NEC offense holding them to just the one run on four hits while striking out five.

Leading the way for Endicott was Aaron Santos (Cambridge, Mass.) and who had two hits, including a triple and scored a run. Endicott's Dan Greel (Rockport, Mass.) singled twice for the Gulls and Chris Dominguez (Braintree, Mass.) drove in three runs with a bases clearing triple.

Leading the way for NEC was Scott Miller (Mt. Airy, Md.) who singled and doubled for the Pilgrims. On the mound for NEC was Joe Rini (New London, Conn.) who allowed nine runs on eight hits.

In game two the Gulls would strike first as Endicott would score two unearned runs in the top half of the first inning. The Pilgrims would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the first as Jimmy Hoyt (Rochester, N.H.) would score on a fielder's choice. The two teams would battle through the next three innings scoreless before the Pilgrims would use four hits in the fourth to plate four runs building a 5-2 lead. Endicott would add a run in the top of the sixth and threaten in the top of the seventh but the NEC defense would hold strong as the Pilgrims would come away with the 5-3 victory.

Leading the way for NEC was Jimmy Hoyt who singled, doubled and scored two runs. NEC's Mike Caravella (Milford, N.H.) singled in two runs and Joe Clark (Newcastle, Maine) added an RBI double. Recording the complete game victory for the Pilgrims was Dan Pratt (Concord, N.H.) who allowed just one earned run on three hits and struck out four.

Leading the way for Endicott in game two was Andrew Betts (Bristol, Conn.) and Roberto Zapata (Boston, Mass.) who each singled in a run for the Gulls. On the mound for Endicott was Mike Nich (Amity, Conn.) who allowed one earned run in four plus innings of work.
