Gulls sweep UMass-Dartmouth to end spring trip

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Endicott's Colin McGinn (Tolland, Conn.) allowed just two runs and struck out six in a complete game win in game one, and then Michael Russo (Natick, Mass.) and Aaron Santos (Cambridge, Mass.) helped lead Endicott in a come-from-behind win in game two to sweep UMass-Dartmouth on Friday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. The pair of victories wrapped up the final day of action for the Gulls at the Russmat Baseball Central Florida Invitational Tournament, where the Blue and Green posted a 5-5 overall record against some of the toughest competition in all of Division III.

McGinn threw a complete game in the front-end of the doubleheader on Friday, as the junior righty allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out six. Aaron Santos hit 2-for-4 in game one, including an RBI, while Andrew Betts (Bristol, Conn.) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in the victory.

UMass-Dartmouth freshman right fielder Pete Beksha (Franklin, Mass.) drove in both runs for the Corsairs in the opener, doubling home junior center fielder Jeff Macchi (Franklin, Mass.) in the third inning, and driving home senior left fielder Mike Mitchell (Boston, Mass.) in the fourth to cut Endicott's lead to 3-2. Sophomore right-hander Tyler Noyes (Keene, N.H.) allowed four runs and 10 hits in seven innings, and took the loss.

In the nightcap, Endicott's Brian Andersen (Grafton, Mass.) and Michael Russo each went 2-for-3 with an RBI each as the Gulls took a 6-4 win. The Blue and Green scored four runs in the final three innings, getting to UMass-Dartmouth starter Shane Campbell (Marlboro, Mass.).

The Corsairs took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, scoring on an RBI single by Mitchell, a run-scoring double by sophomore shortstop Ryan McDermott (Pembroke, Mass.) and a single by sophomore catcher Eric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) that scored McDermott. Macchi knocked in the Corsairs' other run with an RBI single in the fifth. Campbell took the loss, with freshman Pat Lavey (Cranston, R.I.) finishing

The Gulls finish the spring trip with a 5-5 overall record. Endicott returns to action on March 25th when it hosts Salem State for a 3:30 p.m. tilt in Beverly, Mass.
