Box Score

BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College baseball team continued their late season slide on Thursday afternoon as the Gulls failed to preserve a 4-2 lead in the 8th inning, dropping a 9-4 decision to Roger Williams University on North Field in Beverly, MA. Endicott has now lost five-straight CCC games.

It looked as though the Gulls had something going early on as Joe Orlando (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) drove a scorcher to right to lead off the second for the Gulls. Junior catcher Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) followed up with an infield single to put two on with no outs for the home team. Roger Williams worked their way out of the tough jam as Orlando was caught stealing and Ryan Scanlon (Lowell, MA/Lowell) lined into a tough-luck double play to end the inning.

The Endicott misfortunes continued in the fourth as Steve Vidmosko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) led the Gulls off with a triple to the centerfield triangle. The senior second baseman missed an opportunity to score on a passed ball and was then thrown out attempting to score on a grounder to the left side of the infield on a nice play by the visiting Hawks.

The games first run was finally scored in the bottom of the sixth as Vidmosko once again had the hot bat as he doubled to left-center to score the speedy Aaron Santos (Cambridge, MA/Cushing Academy) all the way from first for the 1-0 lead. Roger Williams took their first lead of the game in the top of the seventh as Bill Lambert (Hanover, MA/Hanover) doubled to the gap to score Alex Perry (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) and Grant Bolin (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) to take the 2-1 advantage.

The see-saw affair continued in the home-half of the seventh as the Gulls loaded the bases with no outs. John Skutnik (Pittsfield, MA/Pittsfield) singled to centerfield to score Orlando, tying the score at 2-all. Endicott took the lead as Adam Labbe (Litchfield, MA/Oak Hill Regional) dropped a pretty sacrifice bunt to score Gomez for the 3-2 lead. Endicott would up the score to 4-2 after a pitching change as Adam Dackers (Brockton, MA/Brockton) issued a bases loaded free-pass to Vidmosko, putting the Gulls up two.

Roger Williams rallied to put the game away in the top of the eighth as the Hawks were also able to load the bases with no outs. RWU rattled off four straight hits with the bases juiced from Ryan MacCarthy (Middleton, MA/Masconomet), Grant Bolin, Alex Perry and Bill Lambert (Hanover, MA/Hanover) to plate four runs and give themselves a 6-4 lead. Following a sac fly from Jamie Dahill (South Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) and an RBI groundout from Kevin Simpson (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry), Andrew Haycock (Medfield, MA/Medfield) crushed an RBI exclamation point double to deep center to give the visitors the 9-4 win.

Steve Vidmosko led the way for the Gulls at the dish as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. RWU's Bill Lambert drove in three runs on a 2-for-5 afternoon for the Hawks. As a team, Roger Williams smacked 15 hits en route to the 9-4 win.

The loss sets Endicott back to 13-18 overall and 9-9 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott returns to the field tomorrow afternoon as they play at Brandeis at 3:30 PM. The Gulls then return home Saturday to finish up CCC play with a doubleheader vs. Nichols College.
