Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Western New England freshman second baseman Justin Walz (Groton, CT) delivered the game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Golden Bears rallied to defeat Endicott College, 3-2, in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon at Trelease Park.

Western New England entered the ninth inning trailing 2-0, but the Golden Bears were able to tie the contest when freshman right fielder Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) knocked in the tying runs with a two RBI single. This set the stage for Walz's game winning hit with two outs for the victory.

Endicott opened the game by grabbing an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and then doubled their advantage on an RBI single by senior Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) in the eighth.

Western New England's Matthew Tahdeio (West Greenwich, RI) picked up the win in relief to pull his record back to .500 at 2-2. The win improves WNEC to 17-8 as the Golden Bears have now won four straight.

Endicott returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they jump back into Commonwealth Coast Conference action for an afternoon doubleheader with the Hawks of Roger Williams University. Game one of the twin bill is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start in Bristol, RI.
