BRIDGEWATER, MA - A five run rally in the top of the eighth inning wasn't enough, as the Endicott College baseball team fell to Bridgewater State College, 9-6 on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Park in Bridgewater, MA. The Bears have now defeated the Gulls six straight times dating back to the 2000 season.

The Gulls opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the second inning when freshman third baseman Dennis Kinsey (Lansdale, PA/Methacton) doubled in junior catcher Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) from third.

Bridgewater State jumped on the board in the second inning when senior DH Dana Hansen (Hanover, MA/ Hanover) doubled in senior centerfielder Andrew Dillon (Whitman, MA/ Whitman Hanson) from first. Sophomore first baseman Dave Kiloski (Lowell, MA/ Lowell) followed with a single down the left field line driving in Dillon from second.

Bridgewater extended their lead by scoring two in the fourth, one in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Dillon, and two more in the sixth inning on a two-run double by junior leftfielder Steve Smith (East Taunton, MA/ Taunton).

Endicott narrowed the score in the eighth inning as they took advantage of two Bridgewater State fielding miscues. The Gulls plated five runs in the eighth on hits from Gavin Softic (Athol, MA/Athol/Cushing Academy), Kinsey, Tom Warner (Contoocook, NH/Hopkinton), Aaron Santos (Cambridge, MA/Cushing Academy) and Steve Vidmosko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep). The Gulls rally was ended when they had a runner thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The Bears pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Kelly LaDow (East Falmouth, MA/ Falmouth).

Steve Smith led the way for the Bears going 3-for-5 with two runs and a pair of runs batted in. Dillon also stood out going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Hanson finshed 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Senior second baseman Steve Vidmosko led the way for Endicott going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior outfielder Joe Orlando (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) and junior DH Gavin Softic also chipped in with two hits apiece.

Bridgewater State freshman right-hander Ben Altman (East Taunton, MA/ Taunton) picked up the win for the Bears in his first collegiate start. He went 7 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits. He also walked 3 and struck out 1.

Endicott freshman right-hander Matt Sharon (Wallingford, VT/Mill River Union) picked up the loss in his second start of the season. Sharon allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, walked 3 and struck out 3. He was relieved in the fifth inning by senior Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/ Swampscott) who surrendered 5 earned runs on 9 hits over the last 4 innings.

Endicott returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Wheaton College in Beverly, MA. Game-time is scheduled for a 3:30 start at North Field.
