ROCKY MOUNT, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan got seven innings of two hit, no run baseball from sophomore pitcher Jonathan Lucas (Nashville, NC / Northern Nash), as the Battling Bishop downed Endicott College, 8-2, at Bauer Field in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Monday.

Wesleyan wasted no putting runs on the board, as Justin Batts (Elm City, NC / Wilson Christian) and Zollie Woodlief (Wake Forest, NC / WF-Rolesville) each delivered RBI-singles in the first. Woodlief would strike again in the fourth, as the sophomore infielder collected his second RBI of the day with a double in the Bishops' thee-run fourth inning.

Wesleyan added insurance runs in the 5th and 8th innings, as Matt Smith tripled to score Luke Williford (Edenton, NC / John Holmes) and shortstop Nathan West (Fayetteville, NC / Cape Fear) singled to bring home senior Mark Wooten (Nashville, NC / Northern Nash) to secure the victory for the Bishops.

NC Wesleyan's Matt Smith (Stedman, NC / Cape Fear) led the charge offensively for the Battling Bishops, as the junior outfielder put together a 4-fo-5 day at the plate including a triple, RBI, and two runs scored in the victory.

Endicott was led by Ryan Scanlon's (Lowell, MA/Lowell) 2-for-4 effort at the plate with an RBI. The Gulls Jason Newham (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) was charged with the loss, as he tossed five innings giving up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits.

With the loss, Endicott falls to 1-1 on the young season. The Gulls get right back to work on Tuesday as they square off with Methodist at 4:00 PM in Fayetteville, NC.
