GREENSBORO, NC - After a long and arduous trip to North Carolina, the Endicott College baseball team opened their 2007 season with a 7-4 victory over the Jumbos of Tufts University Sunday afternoon at Guilford College.

Endicott got on the board first as the Gulls scored four runs with two outs in the second inning. Junior catcher Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) opened the inning with a lead-off double to right off Tufts' Jason Protano (Milford, MA/Milford) to get in early scoring position. Following back-to-back strike outs, Adam Labbe (Litchfield, ME/Oak Hill Regional) singled to right scoring Gomez, putting Endicott up 1-0. Following two walks and a hit batsman, Steve Vidmosko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) cranked an RBI single to center to push the Gulls lead to 3-0. Another hit batter scored Endicott's fourth run of the inning, giving the Blue and Green the early advantage.

The Gulls got right back to work in the third inning, as Tom Warner (Contoocook, NH/Hopkinton) hit an RBI double to right field, scoring Gavin Softic (Athol, MA/Athol/Cushing Academy) to put Endicott up 5-0. EC notched another run before the innings end, pushing their lead to six.

That margin was all the Endicott pitching staff would need, as Ian Parkinson (Peabody, MA/Peabody) pitched four scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out five. The Jumbos were held off by a trio of relievers, as Dave Weinreich (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law HS), Alex Borre (Wilmette, IL/New Trier HS/Bridgton Academy) and Joe Paciello (Worcester, MA/St. Peter Marian) all pitched well in their season debuts.

The Gulls look to make it two in a row tomorrow as they square off with North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The first pitch is scheduled for a 3:00 start time.
