Gomez Signs NECBL Contract

Gomez Signs NECBL Contract

June 12, 2006

BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College catcher Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) signed a New England Collegiate Baseball (NECBL) contract with the Holyoke Giants.

Gomez, who will be a junior this fall, was a late sign to the club because the Giants other two catchers were unavailable for opening day. Gomez is the third Endicott player in the last four years to play in a Major League-sanctioned summer wooden bat league.

Bryan Caruso (2002) played for what is now Jersey in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League and Matt Bishop (2006) played for Harwich in the Cape Cod League.

Gomez is off to a quick start for Holyoke. After being officially added to the roster on Thursday, June 8, he was inserted into the starting lineup the next day and went 1-for-3 from the No. 3 slot. He also scored two runs and threw out the only runner attempting to steal a base in Holyoke's 8-7 opening day loss to the Danbury (CT) Westerners.

The East Longmeadow native hit .272 for the Gulls this spring with five doubles and three home runs. Gomez owned a .375 slugging percentage and a .327 on-base percentage.
