Judges Hand Down Losing Decision to Gulls

BEVERLY, MA - Brandeis University plated three runs in both the second and the fifth innings to down Endicott College, 12-4, Thursday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Endicott College.

The Gulls (23-18) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn) two-run homer in the first inning, but the rest of the day belonged to the Judges and starter Tim Dunphy (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Ringe & Latin), who went the distance to improve to 10-3 on the mound. He scattered 13 hits and just four runs while fanning 10 and walking just one.

Ben Dashefsky (Massapequa, NY/ Massapequa) powered the Brandeis attack, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. Jonathan Winston (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) drove in a pair of runs on two hits while Malcolm Cone-Coleman (Portland, ME/Portland) was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI as well.

Bishop was 3-for-5 for Endicott, while Kevin Donahue (Reading, MA/Reading) plated the other two runs, going 4-for-4 with two RBI. Donahue hit a two-run double to left field in the eighth to cut the Judges lead to 10-4, but the visitors got the runs right bakc in the top of the ninth.

Gulls' starter Dave Weinreich (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs (4 earned) on five hits over his 4.1 innings of work. Reliever Mike Wells (South Portland, ME/South Portland) went three innings of four-hit baseball, giving up two runs to go along with three strikeouts.

Endicott, which secured a spot in the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament (beginning May 15) will travel to Babson College Friday before closing out the season at home versus Suffolk Saturday.
