Final Stats

WENHAM, MA - The Gulls of Endicott traveled to face the Fighting Scots of Gordon College this afternoon for a CCC doubleheader. The Gulls came away with a split after Gordon won in the bottom of the ninth inning in the second game 5-4. The Gulls were able to come away with the opener when they defeated the Fighting Scots 2-0. These games put the Gulls at 12-13 (10-2 CCC) while the Fighting Scots record now stands at 7-12 (5-9 CCC).

The story of the first game was the Gulls starting pitcher junior Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott). Fields threw a two hitter and only allowed four balls to reach the outfielders. Fields finished with six strikeouts without walking a batter. Fields also had innings in which he needed just three and seven pitches to retire the Fighting Scots.

The Gulls offense in the first game was led by senior Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn) who went 1-2 with an RBI single and a stolen base while senior Mark Vaughan (North Reading, MA/North Reading) also had an RBI single. The run scorers for the Gulls in the first game were sophomore Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) and sophomore Tom Warner (Hopkinton, NH/Hopkinton).

The Fighting Scots took the second game when they had a bases loaded infield single with two outs by Nathan Lloyd (Wall, NJ) that scored Nate Purswell (Wenham, MA). The Fighting Scots were able to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when they plated three consecutive batters. The Fighting Scots were able to take advantage of two throwing errors in a single play that plated two runners and then were able to add a third when Brett Morgan (Huntington, MA) had an RBI single.

The Gulls were able to answer back in the top of the next inning when they had three straight hits by Bishop, junior Joe Orlando (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester), and Gomez to tie the game. Orlando also had a homer in his previous at-bat to put the Gulls in the lead. The Gulls had a strong relief pitching performance from freshman Dave Weinreich (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law). Weinreich came in during the fifth inning in relief of starter Mike Daggett (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill Regional) and pitched superbly. The freshman finished with four innings pitched, allowing only two hits while striking out four.

The Gulls are back in action on Friday as they travel to Dudley, MA to face the Bison of Nichols College. The first pitch of the CCC doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00pm.
