MILTON, MA - Endicott College has not been able to piece together timely hitting with quality pitching this season. But in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener Saturday afternoon, Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn) and Ian Parkinson (Peabody, MA/Peabody) were able to give the Gulls that elusive mixture of pitching and offense in a doubleheader sweep of Curry College, 11-9, 5-0.

Bishop ignited Endicott's offense in the fifth inning of game one, slugging a grand slam to break the game open. The Gulls improved to 4-10 overall and more importantly 2-0 in the CCC.

Parkinson stymied the Colonels in game two, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning. Parkinson earned his second win of the season after holding the hosts to just one hit while fanning eight and walking two.

Curry mounted a comeback in the seventh inning of the first game, plating five runs to cut the deficit to 11-9. But the Colonels could not complete the comeback.

Kevin Donahue (Reading, MA/Reading) and Gavin Softic (Athol, MA/Athol/Cushing Academy) led the Gulls' offense in the 11-9 victory. Donahue went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI while Softic drove in two runs on 2-for-2 hitting. Joe Orlando (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) chipped in two singles (2-for-3) and an RBI as well.

Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) worked six frames to earn the win, fanning three and allowing seven runs.

Endicott plated two runs in the first and fourth sandwiched around a single run in the third. Mark Vaughan (North Reading, MA/North Reading) kickstarted the offense in the first on a two-run single that scored Fields, who singled, and Steve Vidmosko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep).

Vidmosko plated Orlando in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and Mike Sorrentino (Waltham, MA/Waltham) scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 cushion.

Parkinson lost the perfect game when walked the first batter of the fifth inning and Matt Perrin broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single.

The Gulls travel to Worcester State Tuesday (3:30), before hosting CCC opponents Eastern Nazarene (Wednesday), Salve Regina (Saturday) and Roger Williams (Sunday).
