Final Stats

SALEM, MA - The Gulls took on the Vikings of Salem State this afternoon at Palmer Cove Field in a game that lasted just under two hours. The Gulls were unable to get the bats going in a consistent fashion as they ended up on the wrong end of a 5-1 score. This loss dropped the Gulls to 2-9 on the season while the Vikings improved to 16-2.

Senior Kevin Donahue (Reading, MA/Reading) recorded the only multi-hit performance of the game for the Gulls as he went 2-4 with a single and a double. Junior Erik Fields scored the Gulls only run of the game in the seventh inning when he scored from second base on a single to the left-center gap by sophomore Gavin Softic (Athol, MA/Cushing Academy). Fields reached base earlier in the inning also on a single to left. Freshman Mike Sorrentino (Waltham, MA/Waltham) recorded the Gulls only other hit in the second inning with a line drive to center field for a single.

Playing well for the Vikings today was senior Jason Sablone (Malden, MA/Malden) who went 2-4 with a double. The Vikings also had a pair of players that scored two runs each in sophomore Marc Crovo (Melrose, MA/Melrose) and senior John Cunningham (Medford, MA/Medford). The Vikings also kept the Gulls off balance at the plate using four pitchers in nine innings with junior Steve Duane (Braintree, MA/Braintree) receiving the most time with three innings pitched.

The Gulls have the day off tomorrow but are back in action on Friday March 31, 2006 when they travel to Norton, MA to play the Wheaton Lyons. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
