Gulls Lose To Methodist 10-3

Final Stats

Fayetteville, NC - Jonathan Spivey (Tabor City, NC/South Columbus) was too much for the Gulls to handle today when the leadoff man for the Methodist College Hornets reached base every time he came to the plate and scored five times. Spivey finished the day with three singles, two walks and five runs as the Hornets beat the Gulls 10-3. This loss dropped the Gulls to 0-5 on the season.

Freshman Kyle Schmutte (Wilbraham, MA) got his first collegiate start for the Gulls and lasted 3.1 innings before he was lifted for fellow freshman Alex Borre (Wilmette, IL/) who also got his first collegiate apperance. Among other freshman getting their first appearances for the Gulls were Mike Sorrentino (Waltham, MA/Waltham) and Justin Negrotti (Beverly MA/Beverly). Sorrentino got the start in left field while Negrotti got his bow in the eighth inning. Also playing well for the Gulls today were Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn) who was 3-4 being just a triple short of the cycle and Gavin Softic (Athol, MA/Cushing Academy) who went 2-4 with one RBI and a run scored.

Playing well for the Hornets were Steve Cornelius (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) who was 3-3 with six RBI's and Alex Sholar (Rocky Point, NC/Trask) who pitched five innings with five strikeouts and two hit batters.

The Gulls travel to Rocky Mount, NC tomorrow to take on the North Carolina Wesleyan College Battling Bishops. First pitch is at 2:00pm.
