Rookie Recognized by the Conference

Beverly, MA-- Freshman catcher Daniel Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA) was named Commonwealth Coast Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the Conference on Monday. This marks the first time Gomez grabbed the honor.

In a 4-3 week for the Gulls, Gomez batted .333 (6-for-18) with a triple, three runs scored and four runs batted in. "Dan has been a very consistent player for us a freshman," Head Coach Larry Hiser remarked. "Rookie of the week is well deserved for Dan."

Defensively, Gomez threw out three would-be base stealers, including two in the second game against Salve Regina to earn a split. "We knew he had a strong arm, but the rest of his game is strong as well," Coach Hiser said. "Many umpires have complimented him on his handling of pitchers, and as coaches, we're finding that we are looking for ways to keep his bat in the lineup."

The Gulls are currently 1.5 games back in the CCC, posting a record of 11-4 in the Conference and 18-9 overall. EC wraps up their regular season this Sunday, and head into Conference playoffs Tuesday, April 26th. Tomorrow, the Gulls travel to Western New England College for a non-conference game. The first pitch is thrown at 4:00p.m.
