St. Mike's Defeats Endicott: 2-1

March 17, 2004

Box Score

(Port Charlotte, FL) Endicott had runners in scoring position in five of seven innings, but could only plate one run in the sixth as St. Mike's starter and winner, Jason Frimodig, kept the Gulls off balance the rest of the game. Dave Babiarz singled and scored in the sixth with the help of an errant pick off attempt that moved him from 1st to 3rd. He was Endicott's hot hitter; going 3 for 4 with two doubles. Otherwise the Gulls ended scoring threats with ground balls, fly balls and a crucial bases loaded double play in the fifth.

St. Mike's offense was limited by Endicott's hard-luck loser, Jack Brancaleone, to just four hits. However, second baseman, Kevin Hartunian supplied all the runs St. Mike's would need with a first inning solo homer and a fourth inning double and run scored. Brancaleone received his share of defensive help as well as the Gulls turned two double plays and threw out a would-be base stealer to end three innings.

The loss drops Endicott to 1-3 as it prepares for two more games today versus Marian College of Wisconsin. The triple-header is a result of a rainout of the entire Port Charlotte Invitational on Tuesday.
