Port Charlotte, FL - Endicott's big right hander, Greg Allain, shut out the Lakeland College (WI) Muskies with a complete game 4 hitter in the Gull's season opener. Allain was perfect through four innings, not allowing a base runner until he issued a fifth inning walk.
Sophomore second baseman, Kevin Donahue, batted in the games only run with a sharp, 2-out single in the bottom of the fourth. His hit scored David Babiarz who led off the inning with a single and a stolen base.
Allain worked out of a jam in the sixth and cruised through the final three frames. With one out in the inning, Allain allowed consecutive singles to put runners on 1st and 3rd. He caught a break when Lakeland's next batter lined hard into a 4-3 double play started by Donahue. That was Allain's only scare in an otherwise dominant performance. In all, Allain threw just 99 pitches with four strikeouts and one walk, while allowing just one hit.
Endicott's offense collected seven hits paced by Mike Lucas who was 2 for 3 with a triple. Neither team committed an error in a game that lasted just 2 hours and 10 minutes. The win makes Endicott 1-0 with eight games remaining in Port Charlotte. The loss drops Lakeland, who is two years removed from a Division III World Series appearance, to 5-6.
