Endicott Athletics Update Regarding COVID-19 (UPDATED AS OF 3/13/2020, 11:30 AM)

UPDATED AS OF 3/13/2020 AT 11:30 AM

OFFICIAL COLLEGE STATEMENT

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College has canceled all athletic contests for the remainder of the year. While this has been a difficult decision to make, we feel that this is in the best interest of our student-athletes, athletics personnel, families and fans. For updates on other areas of athletic-related events please see below.

These measures were taken in conjunction with the NCAA and the CCC:

  • On March 12, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men's and women's 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to the spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.

  • On March 13 (11 AM), the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Board of Directors came to the difficult decision to cancel all athletic competitions. Institutions with teams that have returned from spring break trips will cancel athletic competition immediately. Institutions with teams currently on spring break trips will cancel athletic competitions upon the completion of those respective trips. Next Steps

While this is not an easy decision to make, we feel that it is being made in the best interest of our student-athletes and our entire Endicott community. We are aware of the impact of these decisions. However, our top priority is the health and welfare of the entire Endicott community, and to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19. We are taking these actions now, as disruptive as they might be, to lessen the risk of facing greater challenges and consequences in the future. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenging circumstances.

Please know that we continue to work with College administration to review, update, and communicate plans. This is an extremely fluid situation and all guidelines are subject to change with little notice.
