Abbey Cahill, MS, LAT, ATC, PES, GTS, Promoted To Head Athletic Trainer

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College Assistant Vice President, Director of Athletics Dr. Brian Wylie has announced the promotion of Abbey Cahill, MS, LAT, ATC, PES, GTS, to Head Athletic Trainer, effective immediately.

"Under Abbey's guidance, the services that she and her Athletic Training staff have provided to our student-athletes over the years has been one of our department's true strengths," said Wylie. "Abbey's abilities in injury prevention, interdepartmental collaboration, and overall student-athlete welfare, have contributed greatly to the incredible reputation that Endicott has maintained in developing student-athletes as well as young professionals in the field."

A 10-year veteran of the athletic training staff, Cahill will continue to lead and support the department in its coverage and care of Endicott's 700-plus varsity and club student-athletes.

Along with those duties, Cahill will maintain her role as an adjunct professor and mentor within the Athletic Training and Exercise Science undergraduate programs at Endicott. Cahill is responsible for teaching junior level Clinical Education courses, the freshmen level Medical Terminology course, Senior Internship class for Exercise Science students, and also serves a preceptor for several of the program's athletic training students.

Cahill's work in these areas has aided the School of Sport Science & Fitness Studies, the Athletic Training, and Exercise Science undergraduate programs produce an outstanding 97-percent three-year, first-attempt aggregate pass rate for the Board of Certification exams. That figure, which includes a 100-percent pass rate in 2017 and 2018, is 14-percent higher than the national average.

"I am appreciative for this acknowledgment and excited for the opportunity to continue to lead and support the athletic training staff," said Cahill. "I am incredibly lucky to have been part of the Endicott community for the last 10 years. I look forward to the continued success of our department."

Cahill, who has spent the last five years as the department's Associate Head Athletic Trainer, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2008 from Boston University. She also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology in 2010 from Northeastern University, where she completed a graduate assistantship within the athletic training department. During her studies at Northeastern, Cahill gained a wealth of knowledge and clinical experience centered on cardiac stress testing and cardiac rehabilitation.

Cahill is certified as a CPR Instructor through the American Heart Association, has her PES certification and is a Graston Technique Specialist. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association and is a licensed athletic trainer by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health.
