BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College Sports Information Director Shawn Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) has been named the recipient of the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Rising Star Award (College Division), as announced by the organization earlier today.
The Rising Star awards honor those with 10 years of service or less whose work at their institution and service, dedication, energy and enthusiasm to the profession make that individual a "rising star" in athletic communications. The award is bestowed upon two recipients – one from the college division and the other from the university division.
This year's university division award winner is Jeremy Rosenthal of Indiana. Rosenthal is recognized as a leader in giving back to the CoSIDA in goodwill and wellness.
Meanwhile, Medeiros, the sports information director at Endicott College since 2015, has also served as the SID at Wheaton College (Massachusetts) and assistant athletic communications director at Stonehill College.
In conjunction with the Endicott College's Admission Office and the Career Center and Internship Office, Medeiros created the "Endicott Experience" to increase student-athlete publicity in academics, community service, internships and study abroad. He has presented on this concept at the CoSIDA, ECAC-SIDA, and NCAA conventions.
Medeiros was awarded the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Excellence in Communications Award by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and was named a winner in the 2013 and 2018 CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contests.
Medeiros also serves on the CoSIDA Continuing Education and Young Professionals committees and previously served on the New Media Committee and the CoSIDA Academic All-America® committees. He is a continuing education and convention presenter on numerous social media and design topics. Medeiros is currently the interim D3SIDA 2nd Vice President. He was a 2017 CoSIDA convention grant recipient.
Previously, he worked at Wheaton (Ma.) College (where he earned the inaugural NCAA Division III Track & Field Excellence in Communications Award from the USTFCCCA), Stonehill College and was a graduate assistant at Castleton.
Medeiros is a 2008 graduate of Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies and a concentration in Broadcast Journalism. Medeiros also obtained his Master's degree in Education (curriculum and instruction) with a concentration in Sports Information from Castleton in 2011.
