Endicott Athletics Celebrates 2017-18 Season With Annual Student-Athlete Recognition Ceremony

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott Department of Athletics & Recreation held its annual student-athlete recognition ceremony last night (5/7/18) inside the Samuel C. Wax Center Auditorium. Highlighting the evening was the announcement of the department's four major award winners.

Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) was named the Female Athlete of the Year, while Logan Day (Seminole, Fla.) received Male Athlete of the Year honors. Alongside the Male and Female Athlete of the Year award winners, Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) earned the Female Student-Athlete of the Year award and Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) claimed Male Student-Athlete of the Year honors.

In addition to the four major awards that were given out on Monday night, Endicott College Assistant Vice President, Director of Athletics Brian Wylie, Ph.D. and the rest of the department staff handed out several other awards including: Coaches' Awards, Athletic Training Student of the Year, Strength and Conditioning Iron Beak Award, the David H. Cammett Award, the Northwestern Mutual Community Service Award, and the Outstanding Club Athlete Awards.

Winners for the Coaches' Awards were Colin Mason (baseball), Danielle Jusseaume (cheerleading), Danielle Chabot (dance), Emily Teel (equestrian), Samantha Crowley (field hockey), Zachary Poirier (football), Kenny Tuttle (men's golf), Joel Villa (men's basketball), Gabriella Coppola (women's basketball), Ben Zorfas (men's crew), Brenna Shanahan (women's crew), Marcus Poccia (men's cross country), Annie Frame (women's cross country), John Carricato (men's ice hockey), Alicia Steeves (women's ice hockey), Cole McGarrigle (men's lacrosse), Erin McCarthy (women's lacrosse), Marc Lerebours (men's rugby), Sophia Hatzis (women's rugby), Thomas Martin (men's soccer), Brady Sezon (women's soccer), Christopher Kirkpatrick (men's tennis), Hayley Barnett (women's tennis), Troy Riorden (men's volleyball), Zoey Gifford (women's volleyball), Corey Eisenband (roller hockey), Kayla Sheldon (softball), and Danielle Boucher (women's track & field).

Winners of the remaining awards included Public Safety Officer Steve McInnis (David H. Cammett Award) for his constant support at our athletic events and unwavering belief in our student-athletes, Kelsey O'Keefe (Northwestern Mutual Community Service Award), Danielle Chabot (Female Club Athlete of the Year), Corey Eisenband (Male Club Athlete of the Year), Conner Couchot and Alyssa Silk (Strength & Conditioning Iron Beak Awards), and Samantha Crowley (Athletic Training Student of the Year).

Lastly, student broadcasters Zach Weiss and Matt Pritchard were honored for their overall contributions towards Endicott Athletics, our student-athletes, and their experiences through their work on ecgulls.tv and promotion of all our teams through social media.

EMYLEE WOOD | SENIOR | FIELD HOCKEY | FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Wood piled up plenty of awards during her senior campaign including NFHCA All-America Second Team and All-New England East First Team honors, CCC Co-Defensive Player of the Year accolades, and All-CCC First Team laurels. Wood tallied seven goals and three assists for 17 points as a defender and helped lead Endicott to a 17-4 overall record (11-1 CCC) and an appearance in the CCC Championship game. For her career, Wood finished with 79 games played, 23 goals, seven assists, 53 points, five game-winning goals, and seven defensive saves.

LOGAN DAY | JUNIOR | MEN'S ICE HOCKEY | MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Day, who now plays professionally for the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, finished second among all NCAA Division III defensemen in points per game at 1.46 this season. Day also claimed AHCA/CCM All-America East First Team honors, CCC Player of the Year and CCC All-Conference First Team accolades, and was a finalist for the 2017-18 Joe Concannon Award. During the 2017-18 season, Day compiled 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points. He also helped Endicott finish 18-6-3 overall (13-4-1 CCC), reach the CCC Semifinals, and jump as high as No. 2 on both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com national polls. For his career, Day registered 30 goals and 48 assists for 78 points. He is second all-time in program history in points, and first among all defensemen.

SHELBY ELWELL | SENIOR | WOMEN'S SOCCER | FEMALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

A hospitality management/event management major with a 3.84 GPA, Elwell earned All-CCC Second Team honors last year with an 11-3-1 record and five shutouts in goal for the Gulls. Elwell also completed her semester-long internship with Anthem Sports, is a four-year member of the Endicott Singers and Endicott Drama Club, participated in several study abroad trips and January Alternative Spring Break, and, lastly, participated in Endicott's Color Run and Relay for Life.

MICHAEL DEDONATO | SENIOR | BASEBALL | MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

An M.B.A. student with an accounting and finance double major completed as an undergraduate in 3 1/2 years (3.82 GPA), DeDonato is a member of the Endicott College Scholars Program and Sigma Beta Delta International Honors Society. DeDonato also is a two-time CCC Academic All-Conference selection and a three-time CCC All-Conference honoree. Lastly, DeDonato has registered 202 career hits and 100 RBI as a four-year member of the baseball program and currently has his name etched into several top-10 program record lists.
