Historic Spring Vaults Endicott to 28th Place Finish in Directors' Cup Standings

2013-14 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Final Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The standings for the 2013-14 Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup have been finalized and the Endicott Athletic Department, on the heels of a historic spring season in which they produced the sixth most points among institutions that competed in the NCAA Tournament, came in 28th place overall and first among six Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schools listed among the 326 institutions that qualified for scoring. There are 444 NCAA Division III institutions in the country.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today to recognize programs that maintain a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men’s and women’s. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 18 sports – nine women’s and nine men’s.

Endicott, with 445.00 overall points, finished in the top 6.3% of NCAA Division III institutions. With 370.00 points produced by strong NCAA Tournament appearances this spring, Endicott’s sixth-best point total was in the top 1.4% of NCAA Division III schools. Williams (495.50), Amherst (436.00), Wisconsin-Whitewater (431.00), Salisbury (417.50), and Tufts (391.00) were the only institutions to finish ahead of Endicott in the spring standings. Each of those institutions captured NCAA National Titles during the spring season.

The fall season saw two Endicott programs qualify for NCAA Tournament play with women’s soccer reaching the Second Round and football making a First Round appearance. Every one of Endicott’s spring NCAA Tournament teams advanced into the Second Round including men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s tennis, and men’s volleyball. Baseball and softball nearly won regional titles with both squads reaching the regional championship game. The men’s golf team, after winning their third straight CCC title, had a strong showing as a team with one individual golfer finishing in the top-10 overall.

Finishing behind Endicott (28th, 445.00) from the CCC were Roger Williams (114th, 173.00), Gordon (155th, 125.00), Western New England (209th, 75.00), University of New England (243rd, 50.00), and Nichols (243rd, 50.00).
