Rose Bradley, a junior from Pottstown, Pa., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for her works both on the field of competition, and even more important, off of it. Rose is a Criminal Justice major and is minoring in Psychology. We were able to catch up with the field hockey goalie and ask her a few questions for the Spotlight.
Why did you choose to be a Division III
student-athlete?
Ever since I started playing field hockey in middle school
I've been in love with the sport, as I headed towards the end of my
high school career I realized that field hockey was definitely
something I wanted to pursue.
What do you like most about being a student-athlete at
Endicott?
I love the bond between teammates that we form. It's like
having a whole other family.
What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned
from being a student-athlete?
I think one of the most important things I've learned is
accountability, being accountable for your own actions as a team
member and also as a friend to your teammates.
Who have been the most influence people in your athletic
career?
One of the most influential people in my athletic career
would be my dad. He was a member of the Connecticut College crew
team, a coach for UPenn crew, for one of the US women's heavyweight
double crew team, and most recently an assistant coach with Lehigh
University crew team. He's always been pushing me to be the best
athlete I can be and going above and beyond to try and help me with
my skills as a field hockey goalie. He definitely is one of the
most talented coaches I've ever met, being a valuable resource for
not only me, but for every individual he's coached.
How would your teammates describe you?
I think they would describe me as hardworking, thoughtful,
and approachable.
Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what
are they?
I like to take the time before games to listen to some
music, listen to some motivational speeches from coaches, and
visualize myself on the field; working alongside my teammates and
preparing for the contest ahead.
What is your greatest sports moment?
I think my greatest sports moment would be the entirety of
my freshman year at Endicott. I only played in a scrimmage at the
beginning of the season and one conference game, but being able to
be a part of such a talented team and to be able to support
everyone to the road to NCAA was an amazing experience and one I'm
proud to be a part of.
Which public figure (athlete, politician, entertainer,
etc) would you most like to meet and what one question would you
ask them?
I would love to meet Ellen DeGeneres. As far as what I
would ask her? Probably to tell me a joke.
What internships have you completed (or are a part of
now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
I've completed internships at the North Coventry Police
Department and at the Good Will Fire Co. I don't think I could put
into words what an amazing experience both of those internship
were. It was an honor to be able to work with the fine men and
women of my police department. But what has developed into my true
passion, is working as an EMT with my town's fire company. It's
taught me so many lessons, not only as a medical professional, but
as a human being caring for others. It's constantly rewarding and
it's a pleasure to work alongside other people who have the same
level of compassion for the community.
If you have been involved in community service projects,
what project has been the most rewarding and why?
I think the most rewarding project I've been involved in
was a Habitat for Humanity trip down to Birmingham, Alabama after a
series of tornados destroyed some suburban neighborhoods. I drove
down with my dad, who is from Birmingham, and met with my cousin,
who lives down there, along with the rest of my dad's side of the
family. It was very rewarding because I had to opportunity to give
back to my family's community and rebuild homes for those who were
affected by that tragedy.
Name three things on your "bucket list".
I've always wanted to go skydiving. I would like to
participate in Firefighter Stair Climb, preferably one that honors
those first responders who lost their lives during 9/11. I also
want to go heli-boarding in Colorado.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation?
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to become a Pararescue Jumper in the
Air Force, unfortunately that position is not available to women.
But the next best thing would to be a tactical paramedic for
SWAT.
What would you say to someone currently in high school
who is considering attending Endicott?
You absolutely cannot go wrong with a school that has 4
private beaches.
Is there something about you that we don't know? Tell is
something special about yourself that we haven't asked!
The spring of my freshman year, I got my EMT certification
and have been volunteering with an ambulance service from back home
ever since. This past summer I went through the fire academy to
obtain my firefighter certification. I currently belong to 2
volunteer companies from home and am in the process of applying to
Manchester Fire Dept. to be a call firefighter/EMT.
