Kayleen Whall, a senior from Foxboro, Mass., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for her works both on the court, and even more important, off of it. Kayleen is a Nursing major that has been a member of the women's basketball team for four years. During that time, the team won its first ever ECAC DIII North Championship in the 2013-14 season and Kayleen earned All-CCC Third Team honors that same season. We were able to catch up with the senior and ask her a few questions for the Spotlight.
Why did you choose to be a Division III
student-athlete?
I chose Division 3 because I wanted to be both a nursing major and
an athlete; without eventually having to chose between the two. It
was also important to me to play in a league that generally stayed
within the New England area to assure that my parents could be at
my games.
What do you like most about being a student-athlete at
Endicott?
I love the atmosphere at Endicott! Not only do you receive support
within the athletic department, but nearly every professor stays
involved and supportive with athletics.
What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned
from being a student-athlete?
Manage your time and avoid procrastination. Also, the variety of
people you meet along the way can and will have a lasting impact on
your life, and many will become your best friends.
Who have been the most influence people in your athletic
career?
My mom and dad by far! They're definitely the best people I know!
My sisters have been pretty awesome too!
How would your teammates describe you?
I would probably be described as sarcastic, easy going and
constantly laughing- even when I shouldn't be.
Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what
are they?
I love to nap.
What is your greatest sports moment?
Beating UNE at their gym my freshmen year and winning ECAC's last
year!
What internships have you completed (or are a part of
now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
I have completed clinical rotations at multiple surrounding
hospitals and I am currently in the ICU at Beverly Hospital. I love
the hospital setting and I have been able to put countless nursing
skills to use.
If you have been involved in community service projects,
what project has been the most rewarding and why?
I love working with the Special Olympics. The athletes are so
happy, selfless and grateful!
Name three things on your "bucket list".
1. sky diving 2. send my parents on a vacation 3. Travel to as
many places as possible
Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation?
What is your dream job?
I would love to be working as a nurse, hopefully with my master's
degree. I will probably still be living with my parents.
What would you say to someone currently in high school who
is considering attending Endicott?
Do it! It is the best decision I have ever made!
Is there something about you that we don't know? Tell is
something special about yourself that we haven't
asked!
I dance like a mom, but I have some of the best "mom-moves" you'll
ever see.
