Katelyn Wright

Katelyn Wright

Katelyn Wright, a senior from Sudbury, Mass., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for her works both on the court, and even more important, off of it.  Katelyn is a Psychology major that has been a member of the women's basketball team for all of her four years.  During that time, the team won its first ever ECAC DIII North Championship in the 2013-14 season.  We were able to catch up with the junior and ask her a few questions for the Spotlight.

Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I chose to be a Division III athlete mainly on the fact that I wanted to be able to play the sport I love while being able to stay on top of my school work. I also really did not want to lose the love of playing the game, and when you are a division I or II athlete the sport you play becomes more of a job. I wanted to be able to play basketball but still have a college experience, and Endicott ended up being the right fit for me.

What do you like most about being a student-athlete at Endicott?
I love knowing the other coaches and student athletes here at Endicott. I love going to other sporting events and rooting on my classmates, it just becomes a fun atmosphere. I also love the connections I have made through playing a sport here its fun to talk about games coming up with other students and professors and then actually seeing them at the games in the stands is really nice.

What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned from being a student-athlete?
Perseverance and time management.

Who have been the most influence people in your athletic career?
My family, especially my Mom and my Dad, as they are my biggest fans. They come to every game and when they can't make it they live stream it.

How would your teammates describe you?
My teammates would describe me as easy going, approachable and an absolute goof ball

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what are they?
Before every game I normally have a bagel with peanut butter on it, Skittles, and Goldfish. I also always have to paint my nails; when my nails are black I tend to have my best shooting nights.

What is your greatest sports moment?
Winning the ECAC's last year and bringing home the first women's basketball banner for Endicott.

Which public figure (athlete, politician, entertainer, etc) would you most like to meet and what one question would you ask them?
I would love to meet Rondo but not as much any more because he's now on the Mavs.

What internships have you completed (or are a part of now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
I have completed three internships.  My first one was with Lincoln-Sudbury High School working in the Special Ed. department.  I also interned at the Carroll School which is a school for children with dyslexia. I recently just finished up an internship for the New England Center for Children, a school for children with autism.

If you have been involved in community service projects, what project has been the most rewarding and why?
My favorite community service project I was involved in was going on the alternative spring break offered here at Endicott. I went with a group of 26 students to Dade City Florida and through Habitat for Humanity, I helped to build houses.

Name three things on your "bucket list".
1. Go skydiving, even though I'm deathly afraid of heights. 2. I would like to go to Ireland. 3. Spend a summer traveling

Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation? What is your dream job?
I would love to be working with children who have autism, and hopefully I will have gotten my masters in severe special needs or applied behavioral analysis.

What would you say to someone currently in high school who is considering attending Endicott?
Do it, coming to Endicott was one of the best decisions I made. The relationships I have made with students and professors has really made Endicott feel like a second home for me.

Is there something about you that we don't know? Tell is something special about yourself that we haven't asked!
My teammates would vote me as the best dancer on the team, if the whole becoming a special needs teacher thing doesn't work out I will try out for the Celtic dance team.
